"Dancers thrive when supported by a specialized physical therapy and movement framework, designed to optimize their performance and well-being”

I've been a dancer all my life, starting with Ballet and modern jazz before diving into Salsa at an early age. I transitioned into becoming a salsa & bachata dance instructor, finding a great joy in teaching classes and performing in dance teams. However, throughout this journey, I also sustained several injuries, which held me back from fully enjoying dancing. It was then when I discovered the power of physical therapy and the benefit it can have on dancers’ life. At that time, I was in the middle my physical education degree, but as my curiosity about dance medicine and rehabilitative exercises grew, I decided to get my Pilates certification and shift my career and follow my passion to rehabilitation and pursue my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

After graduating from a Physical therapy school, I moved to Boston where I decided to go on and pursue a Physical Therapy Orthopedic Residency. I got accepted to a residency program at Mass General Hospital in Boston, where my focus was on the musculoskeletal system. Following graduation, I was able to work with several dance companies including the Boston Ballet and Berklee College of Music where I still where I enjoyed combining my Physical Therapy skills and my passion to dance. I decided to further my involvement by participating in a performing arts internship program through the Athletic Health Collective in Boston. It was following my internship where I started to notice the lack of PT education that exist among Latin dancers. As I started to participate in dance congresses and events across the nation, I realized that there is a lack of offering to promote health and wellness among the Latin dance community.
-
My main passion is to bring high quality education and treatment to Latin dancers. I believe that knowledge on proper technique and healthy habits can help reduce injury risk and allow dancers to dance longer throughout life and perform better and safer. I started to design several workshops in various topics that include both education and techniques that dancers could integrate to keep their body healthy. I hope that over time, we can make the Latin dance community healthier, stronger and more aware of their bodies to optimize healthy dance years.

Pilates is an amazing method to help dancers in enhancing their core awareness and control, particularly in Latin dance, where constant changes in weight shifting happen at varying speeds and directions. Integrating elements from Pilates can be incredibly beneficial. As a dancer myself, I incorporate Pilates exercises into my workout routine to maintain my body's health, posture, and control.
